I have been using Ableton for over ten years and earn my living with music production. Once I sell my copy of live in a few days I'll be picking up bitwig as my creative daw. You can typically get it cheap on kvr or through thomann or jrr. So with all that said if you want my totally unbiased opinion, even though I currently own live and no longer own bitwig, I'd suggest going bitwig. Both communities are super helpful so no issues there. I'm sure I'm missing a lot of other things but those are the most stand out to me. That's everything I can think of off the top of my head. This feature alone is worth it's weight in gold. Instead, the plugin will just be disabled and you'll have to reload it. So if your vst crashes, it won't take bitwig with it. Live has retrospective record while Bitwig has plugin sandboxing. This way, you pay around the same (or less) than a Live upgrade (going from suite to suite). So typically, people buy the upgrade during a sale and hold on to it until there's an update they want. However, there are sales and you only need to upgrade when you feel there's something you really want. Price wise, if you're buying updates every year, bitwig would be more expensive. Minor annoyance to me.īitwigs modulation system completely destroys Live. M4l is more powerful but I never use either of them so I wouldn't miss them.īitwig supports MPE so if you plan on going down this route later on, this is something you should know (ex: Roli).īitwig also natively has a full screen midi editor without needing to drag the midi editor up and down like you do in live. Even with themes I'm never really inspired in Live. I like both but I'd give the upper hand to bitwig. The flip side to this is bitwig has a better sampler which also has a granular mode. The instruments in both are great but they'll need processing to sound like other synths on the market. Live without a doubt has many more effects and more instruments. Recently repurchased Ableton live due to the sale and as much as I love it, bitwig, imo, is better.
